Welcome to our Internet History Timeline!

The Internet is perhaps the single most drastic development in human communication to date. Of course, the Internet has evolved over time.

Where did it begin?

What have been some of the major milestones and events that have shaped the Internet over its history?

This WIKI has been a pet project at CellStream to answer those questions. We found many sites with various information, but we were always frustrated by missing links and events, oversimplification of a complex history, or lack of images and pictures of the people and technology. Furthermore, while some folks had similar projects they often stopped working on them, and therefore the more recent history was missing.

We separated this work from our Telecom History Timeline project as the Internet itself deserves special treatment.

The history of the Internet is being written daily. Plus, the Internet continues to evolve and change. We think that understanding the technologies and events from where it all started, as well as the important highlights along the way is revealing and fascinating.

We hope visitors find enjoyment in our work as the information contained inside is full of facts gathered from a variety of sources. You will find those sources listed below. If you would like to work with us on this project, please let us know.

The "Internet" is a word that was derived from the word "Internetworking" - the communication between multiple computers, people, or networks.
