Using ChatGPT for troubleshooting, documentation, packet analysis, customer communication, safety, and daily field operations.
Course Description:
This course teaches broadband technicians how to use ChatGPT as a practical daily assistant for troubleshooting, learning, packet analysis, Wi-Fi support, documentation, safety planning, escalation, and customer communication. The course starts from the ground up with ChatGPT account setup and progresses into role-specific configuration, AI-assisted workflows, and realistic broadband troubleshooting scenarios.

The course emphasizes that AI does not replace technical judgment, company procedures, field experience, safety policy, or network evidence. Instead, students learn how to use AI to organize their thinking, ask better questions, structure troubleshooting, explain technical topics, document work more clearly, and prepare stronger escalations.
All of this is accomplished with a combination of lecture, examples and hands on lab exercises.
Course Objectives:
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
- Create or access a ChatGPT account safely and responsibly.
- Configure ChatGPT for the broadband technician role.
- Understand data privacy, data controls, and customer-information risks.
- Use Custom Instructions to improve AI response quality.
- Manage Memory appropriately for technician workflows.
- Create role-based Projects for troubleshooting, Wireshark, Ethernet, TCP/IP, Wi-Fi, safety, documentation, and communication.
- Use ChatGPT to support structured troubleshooting without blindly accepting AI-generated conclusions.
- Use ChatGPT to strengthen Ethernet, TCP/IP, Wi-Fi, and Internet operations knowledge.
- Use ChatGPT to plan packet captures and improve Wireshark analysis.
- Use ChatGPT to turn rough field notes into professional documentation.
- Use ChatGPT to prepare for safe field work.
- Use ChatGPT to improve customer, dispatch, supervisor, NOC, and engineering communications.
- Complete a realistic capstone scenario using AI responsibly from ticket intake through documentation and escalation.
