Course Description
When a VoIP call fails, has one-way audio, sounds poor, or behaves unexpectedly, the challenge is determining whether the problem involves the phone, signaling, media, network performance, Quality of Service, or some combination of these factors. Wireshark provides the packet-level evidence needed to investigate what actually happened.
Wireshark Voice Analysis in a Day is an intensive one-day hands-on course designed to develop practical skills for analyzing and troubleshooting Voice over IP traffic with Wireshark. Using a “follow me” learning approach, students work alongside the instructor while examining packet captures representing common VoIP behaviors and potential problems.
Rather than spending the day learning every feature of Wireshark or every detail of Voice over IP, the course concentrates on the tools, protocols, and analysis techniques that are most useful when investigating voice problems.
Students begin by verifying and customizing Wireshark for VoIP analysis. They then examine issues involving VoIP phone configuration, the SIP control plane, the RTP media plane, and Quality of Service. These individual skills are brought together into a repeatable VoIP troubleshooting workflow that students can apply in their daily work.
Throughout the course, students use Wireshark’s packet-analysis and Telephony features to follow call behavior, correlate signaling with media, identify potential problem areas, and determine what the packet evidence actually proves.
This course helps answer questions such as:
- How should Wireshark be configured specifically for VoIP troubleshooting?
- What packet evidence can reveal VoIP phone configuration problems?
- How can SIP and SDP signaling help explain why a call succeeded or failed?
- How can RTP and RTCP reveal media and voice-quality problems?

Course Prerequisites
