Our BIG Telecom/Broadband Links Listing

440px Internet2

Sure – go ahead…type your telecom/broadband related search into your AI, or Google, Bing or Yahoo!.

After you get 180,381 results or having to try multiple searches or prompts and don’t see what you are looking for in the first 12 pages….

So we built this page(s).  The old fashioned way. Curated, Categorized, meaningful all in one place with links.

We think we have the most comprehensive telecom links page anywhere on the NET!  This is the way the original internet search pages worked!!!

The following are hyperlinks to some of the best telecommunications information sources we know of.  We have done our best to categorize them into classifications which make sense to us.  And we do our best to keep the list updated.  Of course, web sites and we pages come and go.  Pages move or get renamed or even disappear.  We try to keep the page updated.

If you find an error, or you feel something is missing, let us know in the Contact Us link.

Hopefully you will find them useful in your web adventures.

Thanks!

ADVANCED INTERNET ACTIVITIES

GIGAPOP SITES

A Regional GigaPoP — “Gigabit Point of Presence” — is a high-capacity regional aggregation point that connects universities, research institutions, K-12 networks, libraries, government, health-care, and other community-anchor institutions to national research and education backbones such as Internet2, ESnet, and international R&E networks. Today, many are no longer branded strictly as “GigaPoPs”; they are often called regional research and education networks, regional optical networks, or aggregation networks. Internet2 maintains a current list of regional and state network providers that connect directly to the Internet2 network.

These regional networks usually provide:

  • Internet2 / ESnet / R&E backbone access
  • Commodity Internet transit
  • Regional peering
  • Cloud connectivity
  • High-capacity optical transport
  • Layer 2 circuits / VLAN services
  • Layer 3 routed services
  • Multicast, IPv6, performance measurement, and security services
  • Research data movement support

The practical way to explain them is: a GigaPoP is the regional “on-ramp” between local institutions and national/international high-performance research networks.
For broadband and packet-analysis training, they are useful examples of how traffic moves from campus → regional aggregation → national backbone → peer/cloud/research destination.

State Telephone Associations and Related Links

Below is a 50-state list of telecommunications, broadband, rural broadband, cable/internet, and closely related state or regional industry associations. I focused on industry/trade associations, not state broadband offices or public utility commissions. For states without a clearly current stand-alone association, I listed the relevant regional association that covers that state. WTA’s state-association directory and Telecom Directory’s state-association list were useful baselines, with supplemental checks for current broadband/cable association names.

StateTelecommunications and/or Broadband Association(s)Notes
AlabamaBroadband Association of Alabama & Mississippi / BAAM
Alabama Cable & Broadband Association
BAAM is the successor/related organization to the older regional TELSE listing; ACBA represents cable/broadband interests.
AlaskaAlaska Telephone AssociationState telecom association.
ArizonaArizona-New Mexico Telecommunications Association

A practical buying note: for production carrier, ISP, or enterprise networks, distinguish used, refurbished, certified pre-owned, and OEM-certified remanufactured. The key risk areas are serial-number legitimacy, software entitlement, support-contract transferability, firmware access, counterfeit avoidance, and warranty scope. Cisco Refresh and PureWrx/Juniper CPO are safer OEM-backed paths when support entitlement matters.
